Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to visit my food and nutrition blog Harmoniously Heather! I’m very excited about the path that I’ve decided on taking and I am happy to share with you. For those of you who don’t really know me, I’m Heather. A self-styled green smoothie enthusiast who’s decided to take my life-long casual interest in nutrition, the heath benefits of different plants, foods, spices and minerals to a whole new level. While I primarily do this for family, and myself, I’ve realized though speaking with others that there’s a genuine interest in exploring alternative methods of nutrition and decided to share my knowledge the best I can. I don’t consider myself an expert but hope that the information I do provide can be an inspiration to seek out the vast amount of research available on these topics and judge for yourself. What I will do is share what I find to be the most delicious, quick, easy and practical recipes/information I use on a regular basis. Maybe I can convince you to start eating more raw plants, juicing and to try my Green SmoothieLet me tell you how this all began. In my early twenties after my son was born, I suffered from terrible headaches that continued through my 30’s and into my 40’s. Of course I did what most people do which is take endless amounts of over-the-counter medication and just power through the discomfort. I always thought if I ate well, exercised and drank plenty of water I would eventually be rewarded with good health. I used to consume what I thought were “health/healthy” foods that I have recently discovered weren’t as advertised. In retrospect, they were heavily processed, full of sugar (more about the harmful effects of that later), filler, and other ingredients whose names would have been right at home in some mad scientists chemistry lab.







My diet (I don’t like that word as it has such a negative connotation. Let’s use food intake.) never made me feel the way I should except on the rarest of occasions. I had poor digestion, tiredness (all the time), and acne breakouts and struggled to find the energy to do even the most routine tasks. It wasn’t until I came to London, UK with my husband and noticed how much better the food tasted here (as compared to North America) and that the expiry dates were weeks earlier, started cutting out gluten and dairy that I noticed a change. Most of us have eaten farm fresh food and fruit off the tree. Ever notice how much better it tastes? This was my “Aha!!” moment. Once I replaced the foods I was sensitive to (mainly dairy and gluten), with substitutes like nut milk and gluten-free flower, I noticed a radical change in the way I felt. I didn’t feel bloated, my digestion improved, headaches stopped, my hair was stronger and shinier, the acne breakouts stopped and I could actually start doing the things I wanted to do as I had much more energy. Then came…MENOPAUSEA little over a year ago I entered menopause. I knew that there was going to be a change but that’s a bit of an understatement. I was experiencing all of the typical effects such as hot flashes, cold flashes, warm flashes, lack of energy, loving life, hating life, couldn’t lose weight, getting angry at the washing machine because it’s not going fast enough…you get the picture. After the official confirmation from my Doctor that indeed menopause was here, all I knew is I wanted to minimize the effects but did not want to take any medication after seeing the effect it had on my Mom. So I began researching and reading anything and everything related to Menopause that wasn’t medicinally related. Nutrition, vitamins, minerals, what to cook, how to cook, when to eat, how to eat. This led me to start taking nutrition courses and healthy cooking classes, which ultimately led me to discover The College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) here in London, UK and my journey towards a Nutrition Degree. Through my personal experience, research, classes, CNM and people I have been fortunate enough to meet along the way have transformed my perspective on food and animal life and so here we are. I have continued to follow a whole-food, plant-based food intake plan free from sugar and gluten as best I can. My energy is constantly impacted by the food I consume and what I discovered was most destructive to my health was sugar. So I chose the best lifestyle for me that’s abundant in plant-based whole foods, which I share here on Harmoniously Heather.







My desire is that you share Harmoniously Heather with people who you feel can benefit from its content. By sharing with others, I hope to create a dynamic network of like-minded individuals who can exchange stories and experiences from their own journey’s to the benefit of others.
